Born Cecil Elberta Burns, put in an Iowa Orphanage. She was adopted at age 2 /2 yrs by Fredrick Leander Hurst. He changed her name to Cecelia Alice Hurst. She was raised by him until he abandoned her at age 12yrs. She found living alone by two school teachers who took her in. They continued her schooling and registered her at the Shelton, Washington Courthouse. The records of her birth had been destroyed by a fire at the orphanage. Cecelia was sent to her Biological Mother, who did not want her. She met the Hankins family in Iowa through school and was taken in by them. At age sixteen she married Ernest G. Hankins. They moved from Iowa to Oregon in 1939 and had three children. Divorced in 1948. Cecelia was a brave, strong woman of determination to raise her children alone. She worked in retail clerking and bookkeeping to support her children. She was a petite 5'2" woman with a heart of gold. In 1956 she married Daniel Eugene Collins. They led a happy life in a home that he built for her until his death due to cancer in 1981. She moved to King City, Oregon where she resided until she was placed in a care facility in 1990.
