Son of John Avery of Preston; married Sarah Eldridge about 1786. She was born c1762, and died on November 23, 1811

He was a silversmith who learned his trade from his father and continued his father's business with brothers John, Robert and William. He also invented a nail cutting machine.

There is another gravestone for him at Evergreen Cemetery, formerly known as Stonington Burrough, and where his wife Sarah "Sally" was buried.
