Kenneth J. Mears of Kingston Upon Thames, pilot officer, Lancaster bomber DV336, of 619 Squadron, Bomber Command, flying out of Woodhall Spa. His mother's maiden name was Makepeace. The aircraft was one month old and flew four operations over Berlin. It crashed south of Elvington Airfield. P/O K.J.Mears, Sgt L.Pearse, Sgt D.W.Blundell, P/O G.G.Salt, Sgt W.W.N.Knights (RAAF) and Sgt H.V.Birch, were listed as killed in action. Sgt Wilcher is commemorated on panel 169 of the Runnymede Memorial.
