Son of Alexander and Mary Koser of Mifflin twp, Cumberland County, Penna., He married in 1881 to Martha Ellen McCrea, daughter of John and Barbara Martha (Snyder) McCrea, also of Mifflin twp., Cumberland County, Penna.
Howard Koser was a Nurseryman/Tree Pruner by trade, he and Mattie were blessed with eight children:
Ellena M. April 1882, Kittie C. April 1886, Harry A. Feb 1888, Holmes B. June 1890, Edmund J. Dec 1894 and Walter S. Nov 1889.

Carlisle, Pa. Feb. 13. - Howard M. Koser, of Newville, was found dead this morning, having frozen to death during the night. He left this place against the advice of friends, as it was a bitter cold night. When within three miles of home he was overcome with the cold. He was found by A. M. Swartz lying near his house in the road. It is supposed the sleigh got into a drift and Koser fell out. He was 44 years old and left a widow and eight children.
