"George Edward Stayton, 65, of 5215 Rockhill Road, retired assistant promotion manager for The Star, died Saturday at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born in Independence, and had lived in this area most of his life.

Mr. Stayton was the son of the late Maj. Gen. Edward M. Stayton, comnmander of the Army's 35th infantry division of the National Guard. He died March 2, 1954, at the age of 79.

Mr. Stayton retired from The Star in 1954.

He was a member of the Jackson County Historical Society. Mr. Stayton was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 o'clock today at the Woodlawn cemetery in Independence. The family request no flowers and suggests contributions to St. Luke's hospital.
