John worked many years for the Mt. Olive Barrel Stave Company in West Batesville, Ark. He was a timber buyer who marked trees, and was foreman, for a crew cutting trees and hauling them to be used as barrel staves. He was probably employed there from 1913 until about 1920. He and his family originally lived at Jamestown and Locust Grove, but moved to West Batesville when he worked for the stave company. After he left employment there he moved his family to near Strawberry/Saffell in Lawrence County. He later moved to Jackson County and lived east of Tuckerman.
