ALEXANDRIA — Martha Elzonia (Woods) Phagan, 87, Alexandria, passed away Aug. 13, 2008, at Indiana Heart Hospital in Indianapolis after a brief illness.

She was born April 14, 1921, in Anderson, and resided in Madison County all of her life.

Martha was a seamstress for Barber Manufacturing Co.

She was an active member of Grace Baptist Church, where she was very active in Keenagers. She was also a member of Clowns Unlimited, where she was known as "Little Bit."

She is survived by her son, John (wife, Marcia) Jaynes of Henderson, Nev.; daughter, Janice (husband, Donald) Travis Stokes of Alexandria; grandchildren, Daniel (wife, Teresa) Baker of Alexandria, Timothy (wife, Linda) Stokes of Alexandria, John M. Jaynes, and Marlea (husband, Jeremy) George of Ekco, Nev.; great-grandchildren, Eric Baker, Jordan Baker and Trey Stokes, all of Alexandria, Marlaina George, Mara George and Marissa George, all of Ekco, Nev.; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Bernice Hays.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Phagan, on July 18, 1989; and parents, Martin and Clara (Kaufman) Woods. She was the last survivor of eight children, with her brother, Jim Woods, reported missing in action during World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, North Chapel, 6061 Indiana 9N, Alexandria, with Dr. Leigh Crockett officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the North Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Keenagers at Grace Baptist Church, 432 W. 300N, Anderson, IN 46012.
