Fern Jeanette Frazee passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 6, after an extended illness. She was 92. Fern was a life long resident of Lassen County and great-granddaughter of early pioneers Robert Johnston and Benjamin Leavitt. Johnston, for whom Johnstonville is named, came to the area by covered wagon in 1859. Leavitt, who engineered the Honey Lake Valley irrigation system including Leavitt Lake, arrived in 1864. Fern was born Dec. 23, 1911 to local ranchers Ed and Nancy Chappuis (deceased), of Standish.
She attended school in Standish and graduated from Lassen High School in 1929. The same year she married Lew Frazee (deceased 1980), originally of Woodland and became the mother of four children: Jerome Frazee (deceased 2002), Jeannine Lane, of Standish, Jeannette Wheeler, of Fortuna, and Lewis Frazee, of Elk Grove. She is also survived by her brother, Evan Chappuis, of Susanville; nine grandchildren Nancy McClure, of Standish, Ray Lane, of Portland, Ore., Jim Lane, of Standish, Ben Wheeler, of Turlock, Susan Meunier, of Fortuna, John Wheeler, of Gill, Mass., David Wheeler, of Greenfield, Ma, Steven Frazee, of Elk Grove and David Frazee, of Elk Grove, plus 12 great-grandchildren Walter Brown, of Red Bluff, Cetara Rohl, of Standish, Lela Lane, of Ariz., Shannon Forsythe, of Standish, Kiri Clayton, of Fortuna, Kaylen Meunier, of Greenfield, Mass., Chelsea Wheeler, of Turlock, Joely Wheeler, of Turlock, John Mark Wheeler, of Gill, Mass., Hailey Wheeler, of Gill, Mass., Kirsten Frazee, of Elk Grove and Tyler Frazee, of Oregon, six step great-grandchildren; Justin Cassettari, Elk Grove, Melissa Ford, of Arizona, Robert Ford, of Idaho, Melissa Vay, of Portland, Ore., Christina Imel, of Portland, Ore., Jason Imel, of Portland, Ore., 12 great-great-grandchildren; Amanda Brown, of Red Bluff, Danny Brown, of Red Bluff, Wyatt Brown, of Red Bluff, Callie Rohl, of Standish, Britney Rohl, of Standish, Sean Forsythe, of Standish, Lukas Forsythe, of Standish, Albert Lane, of Arizona, Dominic Lane, of Arizona, Avante Lane, of Ariz., Adrian Lane, of Ariz., and Gabriel Lane, of Ariz., six step great-great-grandchildren: Britney Taylor, of Portland, Ore., Brandy Taylor, of Portland, Ore., Brandon Imel, of Portland, Ore., Lacie Landers, of Portland, Ore., Harmonie Landers, of Portland, Ore., Malikha Vay, of Portland, Ore., six nieces: Jane Hail, of Fort Collins, Colo., Harriot Pace, of Hughson, Catherine Gile, of Visalia, Donna Weeks, of Standish, Linda Handy, of Idaho and Margie Lou Bailey, of Janesville, two nephews; Michael Rue, of Marysville and Ed Chappuis, of Susanville, and numerous cousins and extended family.
Services for Fern Frazee were held on Friday, Dec. 10 at Susanville Assembly of God, where she attended for more than 50 years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be sent to Susanville Assembly of God.
