A. Selmer Solie, age 86, of Pearl Avenue, Mount Vernon and Vero Beach, Florida passed away on Monday August 11, 2008 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born on August 24, 1921 in Delevan, Minnesota to the late Thorbejan and Hannah (Halverson) Solie. Selmer served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He owned and operated Jet Punch manufacturing company in Cicero, Illinois for over forty years. Selmer was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He always loved the outdoors and enjoyed biking, tennis, walking, windsailing and had acquired his pilots license and flew his own plane.

He is survived by his wife Camille (Mazza) Compton Solie, two sons, Terence Selmer (Karen) Solie of Wayne, Illinois, Bruce Lloyd Solie of Divide, Colorado, a step-son, Todd Compton of Mount Vernon, a step daughter, Cammie (Chris) Roark of Centerville, Ohio, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Eleanor (Neichter) Solie and nine brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Friday from 1 to 2 PM at the Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th Street, Vero Beach, Florida 32960. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach, Florida.
