Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Monroe for the Rev. E. L. Averett, 86, of 406 Speed Ave., Monroe.

Dr. James T. Horton officiated with burial at Memoral Park Cemetery under direction of Mulhearn's Funeral Home of Monroe.

The Rev. Mr. Averett died at St. Francis Hospital Saturday after a short illness.

He was a retired Baptist minister and a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe. He was teacher of the Major Memorial Sunday School Class and former pastor in Plano, Tex., and Delhi. He also served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Monroe and was pastor and organizer of Temple Baptist Church of Monroe.

The Rev. Mr. Averett was a native of Calhoun and resided in Monroe since 1944.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth S. Averett of Monroe; a stepson, William S. Baxter of Athens, Ga.; a brother, Wesley Averett of Tallulah; a sister, Mrs. O. C. Whitlock of West Monroe and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were J. D. Reeves, C. D. Meredith, W. L. Husted, C. E. Buckley, A. B. Clarkson, and H. L. Tolbert, O. R. Bridges and Wiley R. Mosely.
