Mrs Earl Johnston Answers Last Call

The angel of death, who has been so busy in Weiser the last few days, visited another of our homes last Friday morning and called away the spirit of Mrs. Earl Johnston. Mrs. Johnston has been in failing health for some time. She went to Portland last May for treatment, returning in September. Her malady was considered incurable, but death came last Friday morning unexpectedly.

Pearl Maude Gates was born in McPherson, Kan., June 23, 1886. She was 53 years, three months and 20 days of age at death.

About 1905, she, with her family removed from the home in Kansas to Boise, Idaho, where she made her home until 1910, when she came to Weiser. Here she served for some time as chief operator at the telephone exchange, and as stenographer for Frank D. Ryan.

April 11, 1911, she was united in marriage to Earl Johnston at Boise. The family home was established in Weiser, and has been maintained through the years. Mrs. Johnston was a member of the church, of the Eastern Star, and the Rebekah lodge.

She is survived by her husband, her mother, Mrs. Frank P. McDaniels, of Boise, one sister, Mabel Edwards, of Portland; one brother, Arthur Gates, of Twin Falls; and her children, Eleanor and Floyd at home, Edwin in Seattle, and Arthur at Moscow. There are two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Northam chapel Sunday afternoon by Herbert F. Jones of the Christian church, assisted by Mrs, H.B. Wood, soloist, and Mrs. Wesley Roehr, accompanist. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
