Richard Lee Wessler, 62, of Palestine, Texas died August 12, 2008 at his residence. Graveside military honors will be provided by the VFW Post No. 3907. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. He was born June 29, 1946 in Van Port, Oregon (note correction above) to James R. and Juanita Kalian Wessler. Mr. Wessler was a hotel manager and was employed with Howard Johnson for many years. He served in the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. He was also a member of the VFW Post No. 3907 and the DAV No. 63. Mr. Wessler was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Wessler is survived by his wife, Carrie Wessler of Palestine; mother, Jaunita Wessler of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Donna Smedley and husband Steve of Hatfield, Ark.; sons, John Mitchell of Crosby, and Nathan Mitchell and wife Katie of Tenaha; brothers, David Wessler and wife Betty and Dean Wessler and wife Anita, all of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
