Herbert Randall Hamm, 73 years, 4 months and 4 days of age, departed this life and joined our Lord and Savior on Monday, August 11th, 2008 while under the care of the Hospice of Lake Cumberland at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

Herbert was born in the Alcalde Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky on April 7th, 1935, son of the late William O. "Dault" and Bertha Estelle Sears Hamm. Herbert served our country and retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 21.5 years of service to our country. He was honored to have served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Herbert was baptized and a member of the New Enterprise Baptist Churech. He was a member of the Veteran of Foriegn Wars of Orlando Florida Chapter, the American Legion Orlando Chapter, the Henry County D.A.V. No#155 of Orlando, Florida, the F.R.A. of Sanford, Florida, and was also a life member of the Navy League of the United States.

Herbert was survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo Glover Hamm; three daughters, Melinda L. Shunkwiler of Anchorage, Arkansas, Vickie L. (and Darrell) Haight of Peoria, Arizona, and Terry J. Harrison of Deltona, Florida; nine grandchildren, Kristopher and Wesley Shunkwiler, Hagan Stone, Jerry Oliver, Darik and Seth Haight, Crystal Hamm, Brandy Wilcox and Thomas Wilcox; five great grandchildren, Catherine Stone, Dawson Stone, Braden Haight, Randy Oliver and Jace Oliver; six sisters, Ruby I. Hines of Cincinnati, Ohio, Emma Lois (and Dallis) Hutcheson of Somerset, Kentucky, Leona M. (and Danny) McBeath of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Sylvia J. Urich of Indianapolis, Indiana, Opal Estelle (and Robert) Wallace of Russell Springs, Kentucky, and Loretta Sue (and Roger) Smith of Park City, Kentucky; one step-brother, Carl Brent Leigh of Eubank, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William O. "Dault" Hamm and Bertha Estelle Hamm; his step-mother, Opal Marie Phelps Hamm; two brothers, William R. Hamm and Ralph F. Hamm; two sisters, Juanita M. Turner and Judy A. Gorham; a daughter-in-law, Karen A. Hamm; and one son-in-law, Alan E. Harrison.

Visitations were held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14th, 2008 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15th, 2008 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Blake Penson and Rev. Marvin Rose officiating.

Entombment was in the Mausoleum Chapel of Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Military honors were conducted by the Ameican Legion Post No#38.
