Dorothy A. Conner Oakes
Dorothy Ann Conner Oakes, 91, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Westminster Healthcare Center.
Born Oct. 29, 1916, in Corydon, she was the daughter of Claude and Bette (Cook) Sharp. She married James C. Conner, and he preceded her in death. She married Marvin V. Oakes, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, James C. (wife, Cindy) Conner of Shelbyville and Dr. William W. Oakes of Floyds Knobs; daughters, Sally Woods of Middletown, Lucy (husband, Ret. Col. John) Brown of Carlisle, Pa., and Suzanne L. Oakes of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Sharp; and sister, Josephine Black.
Mrs. Oakes had been a library assistant at New Albany Floyd County Public Library for 25 years.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Tri-Kappa Sorority, Amaranth Literary Club and many bridge groups and community organizations.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2796 Charlestown Road, New Albany.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the church.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
