Beatrice “Betty” May Barker, 92, of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. She was born May 20, 1926 in New London, the daughter of Andrew Loyal and Bertha (Stout) Lash.

Maxwell Barker and Beatrice “Betty” Lash were married on October 31, 1948 in New London. Betty loved cardinals, crocheting, knitting, needlework, reading, flower gardening and working jigsaw puzzles. She was a secretary at New London High School and a 4-H advisor with the King Road Queens and Ma Barker’s Gang in Ashland. She has been affiliated at the Ashland County Fair as superintendent of the photography department since 1991 replacing her late husband. Betty was an active volunteer with Hospice of North Central Ohio accumulating such nicknames as, “The Whip Lady, The Bag Lady, The Flower Lady, Betty Boop, Baby, Energizer Bunny”, etc. She was also active in the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She loved to travel with her “kids” and had been in 49 of the 50 states and on seven cruises.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Claudia Dunn of Ashland, Carol Golden of North Port, Florida, Cathy (Sam) Collier of Sarasota, Florida, and Coleen Sweeney of Readfield, Maine; two sons, Andrew (Chris) of Ashland and Patrick (Rosemary) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell Barker; five brothers, Joe, Herle, Don, Vaughn, and William; two sisters, Lois Thomas, and Joanne Ruth Lash; two sons-in-law; a granddaughter; plus nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue Ashland, Ohio from 4:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dave Langdon of the Ashland Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
