Moses attended the Western Reserve College, living modest and doing chores for room and board.
He became a teacher in Cleveland, rising in his profession to become President of the Cleveland Board of Education. Watterson school was named after him.
He later became secretary to Mayor Otis of Cleveland, and after, organizer and president of he Dime Bank. He also served as a trustee of Wesern Reserve University.

Moses G. Was sworn into the 150th Infantry (Company F) on 5 May 1864 for 100 days of service. He was mustered out at Cleveland 23 August 1864.
