DUFOUR, Betty W.

Passed away unexpectedly at home on August 7, 2008. Betty enjoyed a wonderful 86 years of life having been the 4th generation in her family born in Sacramento on Jan. 31, 1922. She was preceded in death by her former husband Glenn Dufour Jr. and her daughter Diane Dufour Vigent. Betty is survived by her beloved son, Glenn "Duffy" Dufour III and daughter-in-law Beverly Rego Dufour of Penn Valley; son-in-law James Vigent of Sacramento; her devoted grandchildren Mark Dufour and his wife Stacey of Brentwood and their sons Cameron and Ethan; Brett Dufour of W. Lafayette, Ind.; Matthew Dufour and his wife Michelle of Escalon; Kelley Dufour of Penn Valley; her brother Kenneth Schroeder of Sacramento, sister Dolores Moore of West Sacramento; brother-in-law Donald Gorman of Sacramento; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives, and close friends.

After graduating from Sacramento High School, Betty worked in quality control at the old McClellan Army Air Field supporting aircraft repair for the war effort. She married Glenn Dufour Jr. in June 1942 and eventually joined him at Carlsbad Army base where he was servicing in the medical corps. She made many life long friends there. After the war, she returned to Sacramento. Accompanying her husband on his avocations, she lived and worked for several years each in Richmond, Clarksburg, and Colusa. She then moved with her family to Crockett in 1958 and for the next 23 years raised her children, assisted her husband in his teaching and administrative endeavors, and later traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe on educational pursuits and visitations with her son and family as well as her daughter whose husband served at various locations with the U.S. Army. In 1981, she moved back to Sacramento where she enjoyed spending time with her sisters and brother, their families, and frequent trips to visit her son and family in Pleasanton and her daughter in Georgia.

Betty also loved the high Sierras as she and her family spent many vacations at their cabins close to the Gold Lakes region near Bassett's Station off Highway 49. There will be private burial services at East Lawn Cemetery off Folsom Blvd & 43rd St. on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 12:00 noon.
