Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Villa for Jady B. 'Smokey' Austin, 74, who died Sunday at St. Mary's Villa.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Pierz.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until services. The Pierz Knights of Columbus will pray the office for the dead at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the villa in Pierz.

Arrangements were made by Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel, Pierz.

Jady Austin was born in Grafton, N.D. His family moved to Pierz shortly after his birth. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. In 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and worked as a cook until his discharge. He then worked as a cook on a tugboat in St. Paul. He lived in Chicago and worked as a vendor at the Chicago Black Hawks games and also as a bartender. He returned to Pierz in 1984 and lived at Rose Court Apartments since 1994. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz and the Pierz Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his brothers, William and Robert of Brainerd, and Dean of Pierz.

He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Lola Langer, Harold and James.
