Mrs. LeRoy D. Cooper passed from this life at the home of her son, Elmer in Douglas Township, April 10, 1924.
Minerva Elizabeth Barker, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Barker, was born near Rehoboth, Perry County, Ohio, January 14, 1846. She was one of a family of eleven children, all of whom are deceased except one sister, Mrs. A. D. Coate of Greenville, Ohio.
The growth to womanhood was made in the same community of her birth. On February 24, 1874, she was united in marriage to LeRoy D. Cooper, also of Perry County, Ohio. In 1876, she and her husband camas to Iowa, their first home being on a farm a short distance north of Brooks. The following year, they moved to Van Buren County, this state, remaining there six years. In 1884, they settled on the farm which has since been their home. She is survived by her husband, the one child, Elmer, and his wife, and four grandchildren, Wanda, Wayne, Willis, and Estella.
Mrs. Cooper has suffered much during the last years of her life. About six years ago she fractured her hip and since that time could not take a step unaided. Despite her much suffering, she was very patient during the declining years. At the age of fourteen, she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church and since that time she has been a faithful member of that organization. Her only activities outside of her home, were in church work.
At the time of her death the deceased was 78 years, 2 months, and 26 days of age.
To those mourning friends and relatives, she leaves a shining example of patience in suffering and an unending faith in her Heavenly Father.
Services were held Sunday, April 13th at 2:00 o'clock at the Brooks M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. E. H. Jackson, assisted by Rev. E. S. Menoher, of the Corning M.E. Church. Interment was made in the Quincy Cemetery.
Silas W. Barker, a nephew from Silver Creek, Nebraska, attended the funeral.
