Son of Nehemiah Brush & Bathsheba Brush; brother of Samuel Brush [1746-1816]; husband of Mary Jarvis [1756-1822]; native of Huntington, Suffolk County, L. I.; along with his brother Samuel, Nehemiah was active in establishing the Methodist congregation at Commack in 1783; this was one year before the Methodist Episcopal Church was established at the Christmas Conference, Christmas 1784, in Baltimore, Maryland, as a separate denomination, independent of the Church of England; Nehemiah was among the signers of the original deed for the church property; Nehemiah died at Commack, Suffolk County; many of his immediate family are buried in the cemetery of the church he & his brother Samuel helped establish
