John Thomas "Rick", 78, of Midwest City passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005. He was born April 19, 1927 to Max and Helena (Walsh) Rickard in Hagerstown, MD. A veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam, he served 30 years in the armed forces including the Navy, Army Air Corps and Air Force, retiring in 1972 from Tinker AFB. He then went on to a new career in heat and air for 15 years before retiring in 1987. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret "Peggy" (Spielman) Rickard, two brothers, Bill and Rich, and two sisters, Helen and Mary. He is survived by his daughter Lena Shawn Martin and her husband John of Midwest City; two brothers, Joseph and his wife Donna of Hagerstown, MD and Gus and wife Dottie of Lumberton, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his many colorful stories of WWII and life in the service in general. Special thanks goes out to the staff and nurses in Units 4&6 at the Ardmore Veterans Center for taking such great care of him the last 5 years, and the team from Cross Timbers Hospice in Ardmore for being there when we needed them. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Arlington Memory Gardens.
