Army Pvt. John A. Mattox, 23, of Daingerfield, Texas; assigned to the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Aug. 10 at Forward Operating Base Bostick, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident Services for John were be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008, at South Union Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Shirley and the Rev. Chad Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery, under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Alex was born February 26, 1985, in Mount Pleasant, and he died August 10, 2008, in Afghanistan. He graduated from Daingerfield/Lone Star High School. He was a member of South Union Missionary Baptist Church. He was serving with the United States Army, First Infantry Division in Afghanistan. Survivors include his parents, Mike and Judy Mattox of Jenkins; sister, Ashlie Mattox and fiancé , Brandon Melton of Arlington; two brothers, Austin and Dawson Mattox of Jenkins; grandparents, Teeny Waters of Jenkins, and Bob and Edna Mattox of Lone Star; uncles, Phil Fulghum and his wife, Cindy of Jenkins, Mitch Mattox of Lone Star, and Scott Mattox of Houston; and cousins, Matthew Mattox of Houston, Bryan Mattox of Arlington, and Brent Mattox of Daingerfield.
