Hazel Van Erem, 83, formerly of Sobieski, passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 1999 after a long illnes at a Green Bay nursing home. The former Hazel Bernetzke was born Feb. 6, 1916 in Seymour, Wis to the late Paul and Ida Manke Bernetzke. On March 23, 1935, she married Jacob Van Erem in Angelica, Wis. He preceded her in death on Oct 24, 1981. Together, they had farmed in Sobieski for almost 40 years. Hazel was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a member of the Anna Orpha Circle. Hazel is survived by her children, Nancy Barry, Howard; Phyllis (Robert) Wendricks,Howard; Carol (Harvey) Andersen, Minnesota; Dale Van Erem, Sobieski; Rebecca Van Erem, Little Suamico; her grandchildren, Kim Bolzenthal, Jeff Barry, Teri (Cal) Swisher, Cheri (Dennis) Lambert, Debby Wendricks, Richard Wendricks, Robert(Cheryl)Wendricks, Barry Andersen, Bryan Andersen, Maggie (Tim) Liddiard, Brenda (Alan) DeJesus, and Paul Van Erem; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rueben (Loretta)Bernetzke, De Pere; several brothers and sisters-in-law, Ruth Bernetzke, Rosella Sorenson, Margaret Van Erem, Lucille Shumaker,and Helen Van Erem. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, two sisters and several brothers and sisters-in-law. The family will receive friends at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home West, 1145 Cardinal Ln, Howard, on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999 from 4 until 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home with Barbara Ristow, Pastoral Associate, St. Paul's U.V.M. officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Little Suamico. Andrew J. Pfotenhauer, Funeral Director. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. John Rank for his special care.
