Joseph Harold Amos, our beloved husband, father, Papa, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8th at the age of 83 with family at his side.

Harold was a life long resident of Cowiche, Washington where he was born on June 2, 1925 to Joseph D. and Winnie Amos in a log cabin built by his father.

After graduating from Cowiche High School in 1943, Harold enlisted in the US Navy, and served on submarines during WWII. He loved his country and was proud to continue his service through community activities as a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War and Submarine Veterans of WWII, US Navy League, and a designated member of the "Holland Club."

Harold married his high school sweetheart, Frances Lee Weber on October 15, 1945. Together they raised their five children in Cowiche.

From 1946-1972, Harold owned and managed the family orchard in Cowiche. During that time he served as a Yakima County Deputy Sheriff, Cowiche Fire Chief, a Fire Commissioner, and was president of the Washington State Association of Fire Chiefs from 1960-61. In 1985, Harold became broker and co-owner of Amos Realty and was named the 1993 Realtor of the Year. After his retirement in 2003, Harold enjoyed his continued relationship with the members of the Vintiques and Horseless Carriage Club, the "Information Exchange" groups at Fred's Market, and the Fire Buffs.

Harold is survived by his loving wife Frances of 62 years, his daughter Joy (Don) Stillwaugh of Boise, Idaho, four sons Gerald (Christine) of Yakima, John (Cindy) of Nampa, Idaho, Gery (Sherry) of Salem, Oregon, and James (Joan) of Cowiche, the proud papa of Tom, Dona Jo, Kelly, Kira, Janel, Brock, Josh, Lindsay, Amber, Brie, and Haley, and 16 great-grandchildren. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ethel and Opal, and brother Paul.

Visitation will be held at the Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home Wednesday, August 13th from 4 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 14th, 2008 at 11 am, in the Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, 1010 W. Yakima Avenue. Concluding services and burial will follow in the Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Harold's family would like to thank the staff at Garden Village for their caring and kindness.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Central Washington Agricultural Museum where the log cabin Harold was born in was donated in 1993. The cabin was completely renovated to resemble its original pre-1920's status by the Daughters of the Pioneers with authentic furniture and household goods.
