A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 3, 2007, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday and Monday from 9:00-10:00 A.M. at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz. Christian Mother's and the Pierz Legion Auxiliary will pray a rosary at 4:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon at the funeral chapel followed by parish prayers at 7:00 P.M.
Florentine M. Hartmann was born August 19, 1917 in Elrosa, Stearns County, MN to the late Stephen & Mary (Kleinschmidt) Bayer. She grew up in Pierz where she attended school. Following her schooling, Florentine worked at home helping her mother raise and care for her siblings. She was united in marriage on June 6, 1938 to Leander Hartmann at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. Together, Florentine & Leander made their home in Pierz where they raised six children, Rollie, Carol, John, Lynn, Cynthia and Paulette. She was a wonderful mother who created a welcoming home. Florentine encouraged all of her children to get an education so they could care for themselves. Many will remember Florentine as a women who was very strong and independent. She was an avid Bridge player and a strong supporter of the community. Florentine enjoyed playing Bridge, cooking, baking & bowling. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, Christian Mothers, Pierz American Legion Auxiliary and the Pierz Senior Center where you could find her cooking and baking bread. Her deep faith helped her continue to live inspite, of life's challenges. She recently shared, "I've had a good life. I've been very happy."
Florentine is survived by her son & daughters, Roland (Rollie) Hartmann & wife, Patricia, of Pierz, MN, Carol Thompson & husband, Patrick, of Duluth, MN, John Hartmann & wife, Mary, of Grand Rapids, MI, Lynn Lowry & husband, Jay, of South Sioux City, NE, Cynthia Hartmann-Hurt & husband, Russell of Port Wing, WI, Paulette Gustafson & husband, Bruce, of West Fargo, ND; 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander on February 21, 1986; grandsons, Joseph & Sean Thompson and nine brothers & sisters.
Casket bearers are Tracy Hartmann, Brian Thompson, Paul Lowry, Philip Hartmann, Alex Hurt & Amy White.
