Leo E. Ashley, 94, of Elkview passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011.

He was the eldest of six sons born to the late Harry L. and Nelle Short Ashley. He was preceded in death by five brothers, L. Forrest Ashley, Garnet B. Ashley, J. Richard Ashley, William Oral Ashley and Herbert R. Ashley; a son, Robert L. Ashley; and wife, Marjorie Moore Ashley.

He retired from Union Carbide in 1980 with 28 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa, Italy and Sicily through five major battles with the 396 Engineer Company. He was a 70-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 126, Clendenin; the Scottish Rite; and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clendenin Chapter No. 24.

Mr. Ashley is survived by his son, Michael A. Ashley and wife, Naomi, of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Kay Ashley Ling and husband, Brad, of

Buckhannon; grandson, David M. Ashley and wife, Cathy, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; granddaughters, Amy L. Robinson and husband, Ed, of Raleigh, N.C., and Sarah Ashley Ling of Buckhannon.

Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 31, at Koontz Cemetery, Clendenin with Masonic graveside rites by lodge 126, and military graveside rites by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin.
