Mrs. Margaret Meyer Funeral In Pierz Monday
Mrs. Margaret Meyer passed away at St. Gabriel's hospital, Little Falls, at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, March 17, after a brief period of illness. She was admitted for treatment March 7, following a stroke the day before, which left her in a condition that was not at all favorable.
Margaret Newman is the daughter of John and Mary Lamberta Newman. The date of her birth was July 27, 1870, at Madison, Wisconsin. At the age of three she came to Pierz (then Rich Prairie) with her parents, using a covered wagon for transportation.
She grew to womanhood in this vicinity and attained her education in District 19. Her marriage to Mike Meyer took place at St. Joseph's church, Pierz, February 14, 1892.
They made their home here continually except for two and one half years, when they resided at Mt. Vernon, Washington. Preceding her in death by 18 years, 3 mo., was her husband; two children also preceded, a son, Alfred, 15 and a daughter, Olivia, when still a small child.
The surviving sons and daughters are: William Meyer and Mrs. John Stangl (Anna), Pierz; Mrs. Ed Gruber (Cathryne), Buckman and Mrs. Tony Ziegler (Mathilda), Hopkins. There are nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren surviving. She also leaves her brother, Peter Newman of this place and two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Meyer, Minneapolis and Mrs. Mary Patterson of Seattle, Washington.
The funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church, Monday at 10 a.m., with Monsignor Mahowald officiating. Interment was made in the Pierz cemetery. The body was kept at the Virnig Funeral Home until the service hour.
The pallbearers were John and Edward Ziegler, Hopkins; Alfred Gruber, Lastrup; Donald Gruber, Buckman; and Roger Meyer and Carl Stangl of this place, all grandsons of the deceased.
