Fannie married second, Jefferson "Jeff" Davis Mathis and they had eight children: Flora Belle, Willie, Rosa Irene, Ali Lurana, Ollie, Gaitha Jane, John Lee, and Zora Mae.
Fannie was a good hard working woman who enjoyed traveling around various places and visiting with family. She created beautiful quilts & wreaths, and made tinctures from herbs to treat her family. She was a strong and independent woman. Fannie was the great granddaughter of Nathan GIPSON-GIBSON born about 1770 in Burke, NC & Lucretia (Cresy) ELLISON probably born in VA around 1777.
The Gibson-Gipson family was listed a mulatto (multiracial) and free persons of color on early census and other records. It is my hope to have family members participate in DNA testing so we can have more accurate picture of our ethnic heritage.
It is purported by descendants of the Rogers family that Fannie may have been the daughter of Clark Thornton Rogers, but I have not found nor read any documentation to prove a familial connection between Rogers and my three times great grandmother Fannie. It is my hope that descendants of Clark & Fannie will at some point participate in DNA testing so we can finally have the answers we both want. In addition, I have not found nor have I been presented with any documentation that proves Clark provided monetarily for the care of any of the children of Mary A. Dills, including Fannie Dills.
*UPDATE* I have taken the Ancestry DNA test and so far there is nothing that leads me back to Clark Thornton Rogers via DNA.
