Belle McWethy, was born to John & Elizabeth (Strait) McWethy, the fourth child of eight children. The family moved to Avilla, MO sometime after the civil war. It was in Avilla that Elizabeth died leaving young children for the older children to care for along with John. About 1878, Belle married Lafyette Abrams . They were the parents of 7 children, one died very young. The 6 surviving children, Burl, Burt, Clyde, Swayne, Madge, & Cecil are pictured at left with their parents on a farm in Texas. The family moved to Oklahoma shortly after the state was opened up. Lafyette may have made the run into Oklahoma in April of 1889. The Camp Russell Cemetery, where members of this family are buried is located on a section of his claim. Belle's final years were spent in Gutherie in the home of her daughter Madge Davis.
