Benny L. Burns, age 72, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Benny was born June 5, 1936, in Joplin, and was a lifetime resident. He worked for over 15 years with Joplin Supply Co. prior to his retirement. Benny was a musician and enjoyed playing the guitar and writing songs. He liked fishing and took pride in working in his yard. Benny married Anita Reynolds April 12, 1958, in Joplin. She survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Ben Burns Jr. and wife, Annie and David Burns and his fiancé, Kelly Pounds, all of Joplin, and Robert Burns and wife, Michelle, Palm Bay, Fla.; three daughters, Loretta Ritchie and husband, Carl, Carl Junction, Kim Starkey and husband, Todd, and Mary Vantrease and husband, Terry, all of Joplin; one brother, Calvin M. Burns, Joplin; two sisters, Edna Lee, Smithfield, Mo., and Mary Mitchell, Joplin; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers; Junior, Bill and Dobie Burns. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will be in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary, of Joplin. Online condolences may be emailed to [email protected]
