A BIOGRAPHY OF FRANK PALMER NICOLL, by Larry Overmire (great nephew), Sept. 2008:

Francis Palmer Randall was born in April 1862 in Connecticut (probably New Haven), the son of Wesley J. and Mary Ann (Palmer) Randall. Not long after, his mother apparently divorced Wesley and married Charles Edward Nicoll in 1866. At some point, Frank must have adopted his step-father's name, Nicoll. The family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, sometime before 1880. The 1880 census shows Frank was working as a clerk in a store in Minneapolis.

Frank married Sarah Catherine "Kate" Overmire, the daughter of Capt. Silas and Mary (Tobey) Overmire, on Mar. 17, 1885. Not long after, Kate's father Silas joined Frank in the real estate business. Frank and Kate had five children: Mary Estelle, Florence Irene, George Palmer, Donald O., and Margaret Catherine.

Kate's older brother Edwin Overmire died at the age of 41 in 1905, leaving his wife Esther with three youngsters to raise on a limited income. Frank and Kate loaned Edwin's son Ray money to attend the University of Minnesota, enabling him to get a college education. Ray was extremely grateful for his aunt and uncle's generosity.

Frank passed away on Nov. 9, 1941, at the age of 78 and was buried in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
