Lucretia Jane Buchanan was the second of the six children of Baptist Clergyman Simeon Buchanan and his second wife Rachel Harned of Grayson County, Kentucky. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Buchanan and Rachel Van Schaick of Augusta County, Virginia. Her maternal grandparents were Nathaniel Harned and Mary Hartley.

Lucretia Jane Buchanan was born on February 20, 1838 in Falls of Rough, Grayson County, Kentucky. She married Thomas DeKalb Bozarth, son of Eli Bozorth (earlier spelling) and first wife Elizabeth Sowders, on October 31, 1854 in Grayson County. They were the parents of the following 12 children:

Thomas DeKalb Bozarth was the Postmaster of Grayson County before moving to Oldham County, Kentucky to serve as Postmaster there.

Lucretia Jane Buchanan Bozarth died at the of 58 years and 5 months on July 20, 1896. She was buried in the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery near Duff, Kentucky. Her husband, Thomas DeKalb Bozarth, joined her there after his death in Grayson County 32 years later on January 17, 1928 at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 14 days.
