Lampkins Battery

VA TROOPS
===
He was one of the best known residents of Amelia County, VA.
He was a great entertainer and banjo player. He played for many seasons with Polk Miller in his stage "picturization" of the "Old South."
Marse Tom resided at "Bird Grove" most of his life. He was 84 years old when he died and his obituary described him as a member of a famous family and in him lived the traditions of the era he portrayed. "Bird Grove" is the Mecca of those who seek the geniality and hospitality which distinguished the times in which "Marse Tom" lived.
===
One day, a neighbor came to Bird Grove, she was one of those old souls who always slept a part of the visit sitting up in her chair. Miss Alice, Marse Toms' wife insisted he play the banjo as the visitor requested.
He was not in the mood, but took "Old Betsy" (the banjo) off the wall and played every song he knew.
Just about the time he finished the old lady aroused and half asleep remarked, "Well, Neighbor Booker, now that you have tuned up the banjo, you might play us a tune." Marse Tom in perfect disgust hung "Old Betsy" back on her nail on the wall.
===
There is a photo of him playing his banjo in the Valentine Museum in Richmond, VA.
===
His name is on the Pension Rolls of Amelia County, VA. civil war soldiers.
