John Owen Conlon, 74, of North Charleston, a retired automobile appraiser and husband of Carolyn Conlon, entered into eternal rest at his residence with his family by his side on Saturday, September 24, 2005.

Mr. Conlon was born August 24, 1931, son of the late Mr. John O. Conlon and Mrs. Gertrude Britton Conlon.

A graduate of Murray Vocational School, he served in the US Naval Reserves and the US Marine Corps.

Mr. Conlon was employed for over 25 years in the automobile business where he worked in and managed several body shops in the Charleston area. He also shared his technical knowledge of automotive repair and bodywork with students in a series of classes at Trident Technical College.

Mr. Conlon and his wife, Carolyn, owned and operated their own business, John's Appraisal Service, for about 15 years.

Mr. Conlon was elected to serve on Charleston County Council in November of 1994, and was re-elected to a second term as Councilman in November of 1998. After serving a total of 8 years on Charleston County Council, he chose to retire in 2002 due to his health.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; their two daughters, Lynn Conlon Schwingen and spouse, Elmer Schwingen; Sandra Conlon Shelton and spouse, Curtis Shelton; three granddaughters, Lauren Shelton, Elise Shelton, and Lindsey Fairfax; 1 grandson, Curtis Lee Shelton. Preceding him in death are one sister, Catherine Baxley McAlister, and three brothers, Charles Baxley, Ruben Baxley, and Clarence Baxley, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Conlon are invited to attend his funeral service at the Church of The Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, South Carolina, on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 10:30 o'clock. Father Dow Sanderson and Father Dan Clarke will preside. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Cemetery, Azalea Avenue, North Charleston.

Visitation will be held at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL on Monday, September 26, 2005 from five until seven o'clock. Pall bearers will be Bill Brinson, Ronald Brinson, Charles Baxley, Jimmy Ray, Jimmy Wise and Johnny Fogle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, North Charleston, South Carolina 29405 or Church of The Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, South Carolina 29403
