N. O. Sjurson died at his home in Hills Saturday and was buried Monday. He formerly farmed in Martin township and moved into the village a few years ago. Mr. Sjurson was a veteran of the civil war and had been with Sherman on his march to the sea.

Nels Ole Sjurson was born in Norway, came to this country in 1855 and settled in Stoughton, Wisconsin, where he worked at his trade. On December 27, 1859, he was married by Rev. Preus to Miss Ingeborg Lysnes, with whom he had nine children.

When the war broke out he responded at once, enlisting August, 1862, in company K, 28th Wisconsin infantry volunteers, in which regiment he saw three years of hard service side by side with Erick Colby of Hills. He was wounded in action, and mustered out at Brownsville, Texas, in 1865.

In 1866 he moved his family to Winneshelk county, Iowa, where he lived until 1872 when he came to Rock county and took a homestead in Martin township, where he has since made his home.

The survivors left to mourn his loss are the widow at this place: Andrew of Jasper, MN, Sam O., Peder O. (Ole), and Hans A. of Sioux Falls; Mrs. M. Anderson of Hills, Mrs. Nellie Shaefer of Valley Springs; Mrs. Lena Phillips of Valley Springs township, SD, and Mrs. Ida Johnson of Luverne, MN.
