Ben was the son of the late James (Jim)Newton Hamrick and Oceola (Stephenson) Hamrick. He is the last survivor of that family. He married Clara Ocie Bleakney on August 25, 1918. Pap, as he was known to 28 grandchildren, was born in Clay County. After WWI, Ben returned to Clay County to work for the Buffalo Creek and Gauley Railroad. There he was catcher for the Dundon baseball team. Baseball continued to be a passion even in his 80s when he watched his grandsons play ball. Ben and Ocie moved to Braxton County in 1952. He retired as maintenance superintendent from BC&G in 1957. He was then a prominent figure in Braxton County among the horse and cattle traders.

He was the father of seven children and the 4th Great Grandson of the late Patrick Hamrick, Manassas, Virginia.(Clover Dale Cemetery)
