Jack was born in June 1920 to Susan and Sewell Hipps.
He joined the US Navy in 1940 and served as a Naval Aviator in the South Pacific during WWII. The sun, saltwater and sand must have agreed with him, because this mountain man went on to serve tours of duty at the following Naval Air Stations: Banana River (Patrick AFB), Bermuda (three times), Boca Chica (Key West), and Sanford, FL.
On retirement from the Navy in 1960. Jack started his next career at Martin Marietta and retired in 1983.
He enjoyed being with family and friends, fishing and golfing.
Jack is survived by his loving and caring wife, Edith; daughter Susan Hipps, Oviedo; son, Mike Hipps, Winter Park; stepsons, Paul Szoke (Aisi), Kissimmee, Douglas Szoke (Raquel), Winter Park, FL; (12) grandchildren, (14) great-grandchildren; a brother Don Hipps, Charlotte, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
