"Mr. and Mrs. Al Winters Feted On Golden Wedding Anniversary [1964]
HARPER [Oregon] --Mr. and Mrs. Al Winters of Harper were honored in August with a family reunion dinner and reception in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Winters were on the Owyhee river at Watson, Oregon prior to the time the Owyhee dam was built and flooded over the farming area there.

Mr. and Mrs Winters were married at Caldwell, Ida., September 11, 1914 in the old Owyhee hotel. They lived in the Watson area until 1924 when they moved to Vale and operated a trucking business for some time.

In 1934, the family moved to a cattle ranch on Spring Creek where supplies had to be taken in on horses. They lived there for five years.

In 1942 the family moved to Harper to the Cottonwood ranch where they resided until they retired in 1959. The Winters have seven children, 35 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Six of the Winters children attending the affair included Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hohenshelt and three children of Ellensburg, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Max Winters and seven of their children of Merced, Calif.

Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Winters and three children, Madras; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Winters and four daughters of Spokane and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Winters and son from Klamath Falls. Mrs. Eva Wathers, the youngest daughter of the Winters was unable to come from Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.

At noon Saturday, a dinner was served for the family and friends at the Community hall. At 3 p.m., the group gathered for the Golden Wedding ceremony. Rev. Wayne Winters a pastor in the Reorganized Latter Day Saint church, read the ceremony at which Mr. and Mrs. Al Winters reaffirmed their wedding vows.

Their attendants were oldest son, Max, and their oldest daughter, Mrs. Leora Hohenshelt.

Mrs Winters wore a blue two piece dress with a white lace blouse and a pearl necklace and earrings presented to her by the Hershel Winters. Her corsage of a lovely rose and carnations with bows was given to her by the Mike Winters.
Miss Susie Winters was in charge of the memory book and distributed name tags to the guests. The memory book was a gift of the Max Winters.

A money tree, a gold sprayed Manzanita branch with gold foil covered coins was near the gift table. Miss Betty Rae Hohenshelt was in charge of the gift table.

Mrs. Mickey Winters of Madras baked and decorated the wedding cake which was served by Mrs. Opal McConnell of Council, Ida. and Mrs. Clara Garver of Portland. Miss Christine Winters and Vicki Winters served the coffee and punch.

Out of area guests were Mrs. Eva Montgomery and Mr. and Mrs. Bob McConnell of Council.
