Truit's Company A, 1st Regiment Texas Lancers (Company A, K, 28th Regiment, Texas Cavalry). From July 5 through 24, 1862, he served as a teamster near Little Rock, Arkansas. He was discharged from Company K on November 17, 1862. The 1867 Voter Registration List shows Oliver Cromwell Branch having been in Texas for 22 years. The 1900 federal census for Nacogdoches County lists Oliver Cromwell Branch, age 68, and Margaret, age 60. They had been married 40 years. Oliver and Margaret Burns-Branch had 5 children, and 2 were still living.
