DR. GEORGE F. ROOTES DIED TUESDAY P.M.

WELL KNOWN PHYSICIAN OF TEBBETTS PASSED AWAY AT TUSCUMBIA, MO LIFE SPENT HELPING OTHERS Followed in Footsteps of His Father in Caring for the Sick of South Callaway

Dr. George French Rootes, of Tebbetts, died Thursday on his way to Tuscumbia, where he was going to visit a fellow physician, Dr. Douglas Kours, in regard to his own health. He had been in poor health for some weeks and it was with a view to receiving relief that he made the trip through the heat. Particulars of his death were not known in Fulton Friday morning. Dr. Rootes was 67 years of age and throughout his entire life had made his home in the southern part of the Kingdom of Callaway, administering to the people of that community as had his father for a generation before. No man will be more sadly missed than will this good man who has gone to his reward. Dr. Rootes had his office in his own yard and many nights on returning home late would go to the office to spend the few remaining hours, perhaps only to receive another telephone call and start out again. No call went unanswered and there is probably not a man, woman or child in that part of the county who did not know Dr. Rootes and certain it is that there is not a road or even a path there that he has not traveled in his practice of medicine. Dr. Rootes' father, Dr. Lawrence J. Rootes, came to Missouri in 1844 and settled at Cote Sans Dessein, coming to this state from Virginia. Dr. Rootes was graduated from the Missouri Medical College, now know as Washington University, in 1880. He leaves a wife and two sisters, Miss Mary Rootes and Mrs. W. W. Griffin of Tebbetts and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his death. Funeral services will be held at 2 or 2:30 Sunday afternoon probably at the church. Definite arrangements had not been made at the time of going to press.

According to FAG member Carol Gathright, Dr. George F. Rootes was NOT married to Mary Frances Watson but to a Mary W {Possibly Kidwell}and he also was not the father of Francis Minor Rootes. These connections were made through the page of Mary Frances Watson and Francis Minor Rootes, which we do not own.

Carol Gathright reports that Mary Frances Watson was married to DR George MINOR Rootes, and he was the father of Francis Minor Rootes.

Ms. Gathright reports that she is a relative of Dr. George F. Rootes.
