Joseph Bert Patterson was the son of Josiah S. and Sarah Pauline (Bullock) Patterson. He married Effie Mae Price on August 6, 1921 in Somerset, Kentucky.

From The Indianapolis Star - Sunday, April 1, 1951:

"Patterson Services Set For Tomorrow

Funeral services for Joseph B. Patterson, 56 years old, 320 North Auburn Street, will be held tomorrow in the J. C. Wilson Chapel of the Chimes. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Patterson was killed Friday at the Olin Street Crossing of the New York Central System tracks when a passenger train collided with his car. His father-in-law, Frank Price, 81 years old, Somerset, Ky., also was killed. Mr. Patterson's wife, Effie was injured in the accident.
Mr. Patterson was a foreman of the Prest-O-Lite plant of the Linde Air Products Company.
Survivors besides the widow are three sons; Joseph, Robert, and Patrick Patterson, all of Indianapolis; three daughters; Mrs. Josephine Orme, Anderson. Mrs. Stezil Eva Pierce, Fulton, N.Y., and Mrs. Clara Barbour, Columbus, O.; four brothers and three sisters."
