Putnam County Herald January 5, 1933
Mrs Jefferson Swallows died Tuesday at her home on the outskirts of
Monterey. She had been in ill health for a number of years, but death was
due to an attack of flu. She was 86 and had lived a devout Christian life
since the age of 13, when she became a member of the Methodist church. Mrs.
Swallows, with her husband, was one of the pioneer citizens of Monterey.
On December 10, 1865, the deceased, who was then Miss Amanda Byers, was
married to Jeff Swallows. They have journeyed together happily for 68
years, and she leaves her husband to mourn her passing.
With the exception of a few years in Florida, the couple lived in and near
Monterey most of their lives.
"Aunt" Manda as she was known, is survived by her husband, 2 daughters and 6
sons. Burial took place in the Monterey cemetery.
