G.R. was the son of Peter Moore Sutterfield and Mary Jane Rogers. He first married Mary Ann Darby, 20 September 1827, in Waynesboro, Wayne County, Tennessee. They had the following children: Urias Jason, Frances C., Sarah A., Martha Angline, Mary Ann, and Samuel Peter. Mary Jane died during the hard times of the Civil War. Gassaway then married Milbra Riddle Martin, 12 August 1866, in Campbell, Searcy County, Arkansas. Sadly, he died just over a month after the wedding.

HI, According to the 1850 US Census for Campbell, Searcy Co, Ark, G. R. Sutterfield had a few other children that I do not see on your listing. Ananias J. Sutterfield (A.J.) was 18, born about 1832 in Alabama; Elizabeth E. born about 1834 in Tenn.; Louisa A born about 1841 in Tenn.; and Cynthia R born about 1948 in Ark. These were in the household in 1850 in addition to the ones in the bio. I would not have noticed; but in search out A. J. Sutterfield, I found the census records for his parents and him. Now I can put something on his memorial. AJ is in Scribner as well. The G.R. Sutterfield family moved back and forth between Tenn and Alabama. The children's birthplace was random and not in order as when a family remains in one place for a time. I will go ahead and link A. J. to his father. - Dennis
