Patience was born in Illinois but had relocated to Iowa with her 2nd husband, John Showalter, and two daughters, Adaline and Henrietta, from her first marriage to Robert Ruark. Sometime after John passed, Patience relocated to CA where her daughter Adaline lived.

Cause of death was gall stones. She underwent an operation to remove them days before her death.
