1923 – 2003
Helen R, Berg, 80, of La Grande died May 10 in Roseburg at the home of her daughter. A Graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Island City Cemetery with Pastor Wilfred Nitz officiating. The Cemetery must be approached from the Cove Avenue end of McAlister Road. Mrs. Berg was born April 6, 1923, to Frank and Esther Hagberg Lindstrom in Fairfield, Minn. She attended school in Tacoma, Wash., and worked as a welder in a shipyard during World War II. She married Robert Parks and after a divorce she married Cecil A. Berg on June 11, 1945, at Spanaway Lake, Wash. The couple moved to La Grande where she worked at the Sacajawea Hotel and the Elks Lodge. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed reading, crochet, camping, being at the family's cabin at Starkey and spending time with her family Survivors include children and their spouses, Linda and Monte King of Roseburg, Jakki and Paul Boehne of Cove and Tod Berg of Boise; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and other relatives. Her husband, a daughter and her siblings all died earlier. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice, the Blue Mountain Humane Association or the American Cancer Society in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St.
