He was born on April 12, 1918, in Holly, Colo., to Lewis Eugene Norton and Sadie Pearl (Walkin) Norton. He was a minister, and for 13 years was pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Lubbock. Mr. Norton was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union.
On Dec. 3, 1938, he was united in marriage to Wenonah Alpha Janes in Lubbock. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2001, after 63 years of marriage.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Lorita and Carter Sloan of Roanoke, Va., Ruth and John Davis of Justin, and Rebecca and Bruce Breisch of Southlake; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Eugene Norton; a grandson, Timothy Sloan; five brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel in Comanche with Rev. Carter L. Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Stag Creek Cemetery in Comanche County, with Comanche Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.
Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until service time.
