VILLA MARIA, Pa. - Mary Jane Strabley Sherwood of Villa Maria, Pa., formerly of East Liverpool, died at 4 a.m. March 3, 2005, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, following a short illness.
Born in Bergholz, Ohio, Dec. 13, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Freeman A. and Elizabeth Crowley Strabley.

A graduate of Wellsville High School Class of 1937 and Youngstown State University in 1968, she was an elementary teacher for 15 years in the East Liverpool City School System. While living in East Liverpool she was a member of the St. Aloysius Community Parish.

She was a member of the Wellsville High School Alumni Association, Youngstown State University Alumni Association, Ohio Education Association, Columbiana County Retired Teachers, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Sherwood Sr., on Aug. 2, 1962. Survivors include a son James E. Sherwood Jr., of Martinez, Calif., and a daughter Mary Elizabeth Sherwood Fitzpatrick, of San Francisco, Calif.? In addition, a grandson James E.P. Sherwood, a stepgranddaughter Melissa Farinas, and stepgrandson Christopher Farinas survive along with two brothers, F. Richard Strabley, of Barrington, R.I., and A. Gerald Strabley, of South Bend, Ind.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Betty Tobin, Jo Anne Carter, Ellen Conlin, Alice Smith, Isabel Marie Strabley and a brother Thomas F. Strabley.

Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.?

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2005 at St. Aloysius Church with Fr. Bernard N. Gaeta as celebrant.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center following the services.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Aloysius School Scholarship Fund, 335 West Fifth Street, or St. Aloysius Community Parish, 235 West Fifth Street, East Liverpool or a favorite charity.
