CTR1 US NAVY
Thomas Bird, 69, went to be with his Lord Jesus in Heaven on July 27, 2008.
Tom was born and attended schools in Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming and Washington. Following graduation from high school, he joined the military as a communication technician, traveling throughout the world in service of his country. He received a Navy Commendation Medal among other awards.
Following a debilitating injury, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, yet carpentry became his avocation. He married in his early 30s and helped raise two stepdaughters.
Thomas had a great zest for life, always helping someone, young or old, in some way.
His smile and laugh were always present on his countenance. He loved the outdoors and was a good horseman who thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He is survived by his wife, Joann, of the family home; his aunt and uncle, Shirley and Bob; his sister, Judy; two half-sisters; cousins; nieces and nephews; and sisters and brothers-in-law and their families, all of whom he deeply cherished.
In mid-life, Thomas came to love the Lord with all his heart, and was always a man of his word - solid and steady in the throes of life in this world.
He loved his Montana. Surely there is a special Montana-like spot for unstoppable old communication technicians in Heaven.
His passing has left a big hole in all of our hearts that only love and good memories can fill.
Military honors will take place at Montana State Veterans Cemetery.
