John James Bay was born in Reynolds County, Missouri, the son of Greenberry Wade and Elizabeth Parker Bay.

The Reverend John James Bay first married Eliza M. Rickner, 17 Apr 1884. They had three sons. Eliza passed 25 Jul 1918 and is buried next to him. He next married Grace I. Brooks 15 Oct 1919. There were no children born to this union. Grace is buried on the other side of him.

Reverend Bay had been a resident of Columbus, Cherokee, Kansas for many years and was a former pastor of the Baptist church there.

At the time of his passing he was survived by his widow, Mrs. Grace Bay, three sons, W. C. Bay of Winona, Minn., J. A. Bay of Kansas City, Mo., and G. T. Bay of Jasper, Mo.; one brother Robert Bay of St. Louis, and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Summers of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
