Lebanon - Lester W. "Les" Juhnke , 79, of, Washington and formerly of Lebanon, died Sunday in Tacoma.

He was born June 9, 1913, in Foster, the son of William and Jennie Juhnke. He attended Foster Grade School and graduated in 1930 from Sweet Home High School.

Mr. Juhnke joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked as a logger in the Sweet Home and Foster area.

He married Susan "Louise" Rogers on September 25, 1936, in Albany, Oregon.

He trained in the airplane mechanics in Eugene and Troutdale, receiving his airframe and power plant michanics license in 1945. He worked at Geiger Air Field in Washington and later at the Lebanon Airport.

In 1948 he went to work in Anchorage Alaska for the Civil Aeronautics Administration (later the F.A.A.). He was a chief of maintenance at Anchorage's International Airport for 10 years, retiring in 1972. He belonged to the National Rifle Association and was a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He moved to Lebanon in 1975, Seaside in 1976 and Tacoma in 1991.

Surviving are his wife Louise Juhnke of Tacoma; son Larry Juhnke of Steilacoom, Washington; sisters Edna Galster of Lebanon, Grace Dunaway of Charleston, Oregon, and Myrtle Spencer of Sweet Home; grandchildren Laura and Loren Juhnke; and seven nieces and nephews.

Sister Hazel Swank Fales died before him.

Viewing will be from 10a.m. to 8p.m. Friday at Huston Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 11a.m. Saturday at the Lebanon L.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Seaside Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or to the Seaside Moose Lodge No. 0798, in care of the funeral home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon 97355.
